Vintage Land Speed Triumph LSR Bonneville Salt Flats Motorcycle

· Triumph

I just found a vintage 1966 Triumph motorcycle for sale on eBay that was purpose built in the sixties for land speed racing at Bonneville Salt Flats and El Mirage dry lake speed runs. The 650cc racer was custom built by the Mesler Brothers for drag racing, but was quickly converted to be a land speed racer.

The bike ran on nitro and has made runs in excess of 160 MPH at Bonneville. The current owner is including the SCTA brass timing tag that documents the bike's 158 MPH run at El Mirage in 1978, as well as other memorabilia documenting the bobber's pedigree.

This sleek custom Triumph bobber even comes with an extra engine. The spare engine is a British built 750cc with finless jugs. The fuel tanks are two lightweight, welded aluminum tubes and the bike has a aluminum seat / fender. The bike even has a thin aluminum nosecone for a fairing. This would be a great way to own a real bobber with history. The current bid is only $5,000!

Bikers Can Run Red Lights after 2 minute wait in South Carolina

· News

Motorcyclists in South Carolina can now legally run a red light if they have waited at the light for at least two minutes under a new law.

From the article at ABC 4 News of Charleston:

Motorcycle riders can now roll through red lights thanks to a new state bill that Governor Mark Sanford signed into law Wednesday flanked by bikers. It’s called the Common Sense Bill for Red Light Traversal.

Bikers often spend a lot of time at red lights because their bikes aren't heavy enough to set off automatic signal control sensors that are embedded in the streets. So a lot of times, they just run it....

Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary Parade Route

· News

Harley-Davidson has announced the route for their 105th Anniversary Parade, called the Harley-Davidson Parade of MDA Heroes in Milwaukee on Saturday, August 30, 2008. The parade starts at 9 a.m., leaving from Miller Park. The public viewing area begins at 35th Street and Wisconsin Avenue. The parade proceeds east on Wisconsin Avenue, then turns South on Milwaukee Street, then east on Erie Street. The parade concludes at the parking area for the Henry Meier Festival Park.

The 105 top fundraisers for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) from around the U.S. will lead the parade of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. To be a lead rider in the parade, riders must have raised at least $6,400 for MDA prior to the August 1, 2008 deadline. The minimum fund raising amount of $6,400 will send eight kids to MDA Summer Camp. Tony Shields, Harley-Davidson Manager of Community Relations said, "the 105th Anniversary Parade is a unique chance for the family of Harley-Davidson customers, dealers, suppliers, employees and sponsors to celebrate the excitement of 105 years of Harley-Davidson and at the same time help support the Muscular Dystrophy Association." Help raise money for the MDA and find out how you can lead the parade.

The celebration also includes food, bands such as the Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street band and the Foo Fighters, the Harley-Davidson Museum, and H.O.G.'s 25th Anniversary celebration at Miller Park. To get tickets and see the schedule, visit the Harley-Davidon 105th Anniversary page.

British rookie Redding becomes youngest Grand Prix winner, aged 15 (Daily Mail)

· Aprilia, BMW, Moto GP / SBK

They came to pay homage to James Toseland at a blustery Donington Park yesterday. But as 88,831 fans drove away at the end of the day’s racing, it was 15-year- old Scott Redding who had turned heads and captured hearts.

The unassuming schoolboy from Gloucestershire became the youngest Grand Prix winner in the 59-year history of the sport by steering his Aprilia to victory in the 125cc class. So shocked was he that when he took the chequered flag, his reaction was born of ignorance of how to celebrate — ‘I thought: “Whoa, what do I do now?” I’d never been in that position before.’...
