Horseheads - An event sponsored by one of our area's largest employers is meant to bring troops at home and abroad a "Christmas in July."
Schweizer Aircraft, along with other local organizations, are behind "Troop Ride 2008." The motorcycle ride will raise money to send care packages to servicemen and women through the USO care package program....

Members of the Rolling Thunder motorcycling group roared into town for a White House visit Sunday, where they presented President Bush with his own cowhide vest jacket and pushed for increased veterans benefits.
'Mr. President, we'd like to make you an honorary member of Rolling Thunder,' said Artie Muller, the group's executive director, to a delighted Bush, who shed his suit jacket to don the vest and pose for pictures.

The sound of thunder â€â€Rolling Thunder  could be heard in Dumfries on Sunday morning as nearly 3,000 motorcyclists revved their engines on U.S. 1 near East Coast Harley for the annual Ride to the Wall.
The event, in its 21st year, honors the nation’s veterans and helps to raise awareness of prisoners of war and those missing in action, according to organizers. It also advocated for the fair treatment of veterans returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Two Tempe businesses are designing a one-of-a-kind motorcycle to raffle off in honor of Pat Tillman.
Evolution Custom Cycles and SandBox Creative have teamed up to design and build the $85,000 bike, said Greg Sanchez, co-owner of SandBox Creative, a marketing and PR firm.
The proceeds of the raffle will be donated to the Pat Tillman Foundation, Sanchez said.

Honoring our Nations Wounded Heroes
Greg Schisler of Humble, Texas has commissioned a Purple Heart Trike built to honor wounded war Veterans through his Dream Trike project. Mr. Schisler will take the bike on a tour to visit 40 U.S. military bases and make appearances for Veteran’s groups. At the end of the tour, in September 2008, a Purple Heart recipient will be chosen to receive this special
trike.

The Purple Heart Trike will then be customized to accommodate the special needs of the soldier it is awarded to.
The Dream Trike project is accepting nominations of Purple Heart recipients from the Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy, and Coast Guard through August 1, 2008. Please take moment to nominate a combat wounded soldier, from any era.
Please help sponsor the construction of the bike and the Schisler’s efforts to tour the U.S.A. displaying the bike and bringing much deserved to those who have sacrificed so much for our country.
