Troy Bayliss increases championship lead

DUCATI's Troy Bayliss survived scorching heat on what he called one of the hardest days of his career to increase his lead in the World Superbike championship today.

Bayliss claimed two third placings in the San Marino round of the championship as on-track temperatures soared to 52 degrees at Italy's Misano circuit.

Xaus, who has spent his entire (full time) WSBK career on twin-cylinder Ducatis, adapted quickly to the new model, finishing the test joint third and just 0.2secs from the fastest time set by Suzuki's Yukio Kagayama.

"This motorcycle has a lot of potential and I think it'll suit me well," said the Spaniard who, like Biaggi, will return to Phillip Island next week for a further three days of testing.
